Marehaven Britta
(Short Creek's Earl x Short Creek's
Wedding Belle)
Norwegian Fjord mare 2005-2010
I've raised a number of
babies, but Britta is the first one I wanted to keep all
the way through adulthood! She's so easy to work with and
has her mother's intelligent and easygoing personality.
She's had her baby moments, but for a youngster who doesn't
get much handling and only waers a halter when the farrier
comes, she's a star. Definitely a keeper!
Update August 2007: Britta has now had a month of training
for everything up to being ridden. She's too young to be
started under saddle, but the traine sat on her a few times
in the arena, without any issues. Mostly she ponied Britta
on trails and taught her a bunch of ground work that I kept
meaning to do, but never got around to. Not much bothers
Britta, and in fact she's perhaps a little too friendly! So
we're working on the concept of "personal space." I look
forward to seeing what she's like to ride in a few years.
I finally gave her a "Fjord mohawk" the other day, although
it's not pretty given that her mane had always been long up
until that point. Before I cut her mane, people kept asking
where I got that "long haired Fjord"!
Update April 2010: Sad news. I lost Britta to severe colic.
It was quite a shock to lose her so suddenly, and I will
miss her very much.
