This is Training Level Test 2 at the April 5th schooling show at Triple Creek Ranch in Longmont. We also did Test 1 but it didn't get recorded due to video camera malfunction. Both tests had their strengths and weaknesses, but overall I was pleased. We got the high scores for both tests, just under 62%, but of course I'm not doing this to compete against others. I didn't ride up to my own standards, but Kelton did pretty well regardless! She was definitely tired by the time we rode this test and I think that's partly why she fell on the forehand in our last transition from canter to trot.

The judge's comments were encouraging and she addressed the issues I knew she would. For example, she noted that I tend to sit more heavily to the left and to have too much tension on the right rein, both of which are caused by the left side of my pelvis tilting forward (she didn't note that part, but I know that's the cause). She also commented that I need to work on keeping my legs more still against the horse. But she also noted that I made effective use of half halts, so that's good! Other comments included "quite harmonious," "correct position around inside," "prompt and balanced," and "very nicely done."

I can see that Kelton is a bit short strided behind at the trot and canter. I hope that's not a bad sign with regard to her chronic soundness issues. As long as she stays reasonably sound and comfortable doing the work, I hope to show her again this spring and summer. If I can ever sort out how to sit the trot without gripping (and yet without having my legs flop all over), maybe we'll try Training Level Test 4! (Test 3 is too weird.)
